Twenty six species of mammals have been recorded in the park including the largest surviving population of Nilgiri tahr, estimated at about 750.

The Nilgiri Tahrs formerly ranged over the grasslands in Munnar in large herds, but hunting and poaching in the nineteenth century reduced their population to as few as 100 animals by the early 20th century. Since that time their populations have increased somewhat, and presently number about 2000 individuals.

Boating on the Mattupetty Dam

The District Tourism Promotion Council persuaded the Kerala State Electricity Board to permit boating in the reservoirs of the Mattupatty and Gundala dams.
Tea Plantation

Today Kannan Devan Hills Produce Co, Pvt Ltd. manages 16 estates spread over in about 8600 hectares of land in Munnar.

Athirappalli Waterfalls

The Athirappalli falls is on the edge of the Sholayar forest ranges.

It joins the Chalakkudy river after plummeting down a drop of 80 feet.

Vazhachal Waterfalls

Vazhachal is at a distance of 5 km from Athirappalli. The waterfalls here is part of the Chalakkudy river.
